Jonathan Stockhammer

Jonathan Stockhammer (born December 21, 1969 in Hollywood , California ) is an American-German conductor.

Life

Stockhammer studied sinology and political science , later composition and conducting at the University of California and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles . He was a fellow at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (1995/96) and at Tanglewood Music Center (1999).

After completing his studies, Stockhammer moved to Germany in 1998. In the symphonic field, he conducts many of the radio symphony orchestras such as the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart , the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne , the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern ,

the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France , the Orchester National de France , the Sydney Symphony Orchestra or the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie .

In the field of opera he leads since 1998 regularly productions u. a. at the Lyon Opera . In 2013 he made his New York City Opera debut with Thomas Adès ' Powder Her Face . In the field of new music , Stockhammer works closely with the Ensemble Modern , the MusikFabrik and as Conductor in Residence with the Collegium Novum Zurich (since 2013/14).

He appears at festivals for new music such as the Donaueschinger Musiktage , Ultraschall Berlin and the Venice Biennale, as well as at the Schwetzingen SWR Festival and the Salzburg Festival .

Stockhammer regularly works in productions that defy the usual categorizations, for example he works with the jazz duo Chick Corea and Gary Burton , the drummer Peter Erskine , the Pet Shop Boys ( Battleship Potemkin ) or the Swedish saxophonist and composer Mats Gustafsson .
