Jonathan's love is a German film drama and a love story of director Zoltan Spirandelli in 2003. In the lead roles embody Thomas Scharff and Benjamin Sadler , the two very different brothers Christopher and Jonathan.

action

While Christoph knows how to deal with women because of his charm, his brother Jonathan is exactly the opposite: due to spastic paralysis , he is in a wheelchair and has a speech impediment, but he is highly intelligent: with ingenuity and a certain wit, he develops websites on his computer.

Christoph hardly cares about his brother, because he has the loving housekeeper Bertchen, who is there for Jonathan and looks after him. Until one day the circumstance occurs that Bertchen has to go to the hospital due to circulatory problems and of course can no longer take care of Jonathan. Now Christoph realizes that he has to step in himself to support his brother in his daily tasks. Jonathan initially refuses to accept his brother's support, but Christoph moves in with him.

Jonathan begins to show himself from a completely different side when Christoph brings his new work colleague Nina home with him. Now a kind of rivalry begins between the two brothers, because both are interested in the pretty Nina. Christoph succeeds in getting closer to Nina by presenting her with a song text that she was urgently looking for for one of her friends. However, Christoph hides the fact that the text is actually from Jonathan.

Jonathan is already working on another lyrics for Nina, while his brother Christoph enjoys cozy hours with Nina. But then Jonathan learns that his brother is playing a wrong game by claiming Jonathan's lyrics to be his own. When Nina also learns during a vocal rehearsal that the music texts are actually from Jonathan, she feels guilty. At first she clearly tells Christoph what she thinks and assures him that she will never be able to believe anything again. At the same time, she develops strong feelings for Jonathan.

The plot takes on dramatic traits towards the end of the film. Jonathan realizes that his brother has hired the contact lady Marion for his birthday party in order to distract Jonathan, whose eyes were on Nina the whole time. After Christoph has spent a hot night of love with Marion, he is informed by Marion that Jonathan probably saw through the game and disappeared with his wheelchair. Then Christoph and Nina start looking together.

Meanwhile, Jonathan drives his wheelchair on his own in the middle of the heavy city traffic. Several traffic accidents can only just about be prevented if the other road users are careful.

Intending to end his life, Jonathan drives his wheelchair head-on towards an oncoming truck. Jonathan is saved by the courageous intervention of his brother, who pulls him out of the wheelchair, whereupon both end up together on the sidewalk.

At the end of the story, Nina confesses to Jonathan that she loves him and he forgives his brother for the lies.

production

Gül Oswatitsch produced the film for NFP media rights GmbH & Co. KG in Halle (Saale) on behalf of Sat.1 .

criticism

The film received mostly negative reviews: The TV magazine TV Spielfilm rated it with a thumb stretched to the side: “Just about the curve”.

The TV magazine Prisma differentiated a little more benevolently with the words: “A love story, as it can often be seen on German television. But thanks to the good actors - apart from the head of the record company - this TV film offers pleasant, problem-filled entertainment. Benjamin Sadler is convincing in the main role of Jonathan, Thomas Scharff plays his seedy brother Christoph. "

The lexicon of international films goes into more detail and evaluates differently with the words: "Entertaining (television) love melodrama, which with respect and sensitivity also suggests some thoughtful aspects."
