Definition of terms

In Sweden, “Jordskott” (also “Jordkast”) is a natural phenomenon in which a sharply defined piece of frozen ground moves away from its previous position in the open field in winter, leaving a hole in the ground. This can also mean that part of a plant offshoot that is located underground or just above ground.

content

In the series, "Jordskott" is a parasite that can heal serious injuries, but can never be removed from the body. If it is not adequately fed, it begins to eat its own host from within. If the parasite dies, its host also dies. It also gives extraordinary abilities and has "devastating effects" in overdosing.

Police inspector Eva Thörnblad returns to the village of Silverhöjd, where her daughter Josephine disappeared near the village seven years ago. She was never found and is believed to have drowned in the nearby lake. Eva returns because a little boy has disappeared in a similar way to her daughter. At the same time, she has to deal with the legacy of her deceased father, who left the woodworking company Thörnblad Cellulosa to her. Eva soon realizes that the children's disappearance is related to the effects of their father's company and that there is a conflict between those who want to protect the forest and the residents of the village, who live on the basis of wood processing, behind it. After Eva was seriously injured in a murder attempt with a gun, she was given the Jordskott parasite as a last resort. It turns out that a number of other people, including her late father, also carry this parasite.

Cast and dubbing

The series is set to music at Interopa Film . Christian Schneider writes the dialogue books, Michael Bartel directed the dialogue for the first season, and Peter Freund now takes on this task.

criticism

On the occasion of the appearance of the first season, the journalist Matthias Hannemann wrote in the FAZ : “The fact that one takes the references of the series to Nordic mythology seriously instead of laughing at scenes like the one with the potted plant is not just due to the well-tempered story. "Jordskott" binds the viewer with an outstanding, [...] soundtrack. Humans are only guests in the animated forest. Atmospherically it is just as captivating as the landscape scenery, […]. That carries over some of the wood carvings in the plot and makes you addicted to this magical forest of horror. "
