Jorge Alves (* 30th January 1979 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American kit man , since the start of the 2012/13 season in full-time for the National Hockey League - Franchise of the Carolina Hurricanes works and for that on December 31, In 2016 he was used as an ice hockey goalkeeper for the last 7.6 seconds in the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning . In addition, Alves has already completed a few short appearances in the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) in previous years .
Career
Alves served at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune from 1997 to 2001 . As a result, he ran between 2002 and 2004 for the ice hockey team at North Carolina State University and began to work sporadically for the Carolina Hurricanes from the National Hockey League in the 2003/04 season . From 2004 and 2007 Alves came again and again sporadically in the minor leagues ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League . He played with the Asheville Aces , Greenville Grrrowl , South Carolina Stingrays , Charlotte Checkers and Pensacola Ice Pilots in a total of nine games.
At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he was hired full-time by the Carolina Hurricanes as a kit manager . Before the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 31, 2016, the regular backup goalkeeper Eddie Läck reported with health problems, but the Hurricanes were unable to find a goalkeeper from the Charlotte Checkers or Florida Everblades farm teams in the short time to be ordered. In current practice, they provided Alves, who had a certain experience as a goalkeeper, as he regularly trained with the team, with a trial contract so that he could officially take part in the game as a substitute goalkeeper for the regular Cam Ward . When the encounter was interrupted 7.6 seconds from the end when the score was 3-1 for Tampa, Carolina's coach Bill Peters Alves switched on for Ward and helped him make his NHL debut at the age of 37.
