Jorge Daponte (born June 5, 1923 in Buenos Aires , † March 1, 1963 there ) was an Argentine automobile racing driver .

In 1954, Daponte took part in two races for the Formula 1 drivers' championship as a private driver for Maserati . With its inferior Formula 2 - Maserati A6gcm he fell at the Grand Prix of Argentina at the Autodromo Oscar Alfredo Gálvez due to a gearbox failure, while he at the Italian Grand Prix einkam in Monza with ten laps down in eleventh place. In addition, Daponte took part in some Formula 1 races that were not part of the world championship.

In 1953, Daponte tried unsuccessfully to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 mile race .

In 1953 he took part in the Carrera Panamericana , but failed. He died in his hometown of Buenos Aires in 1963. He may have committed suicide.
