José Afonso Ribeiro

José Afonso Ribeiro TOR (born October 28, 1929 in Poconé , Mato Grosso , Brazil ; † November 10, 2009 in Canoas , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and prelate of Borba .

Life

José Afonso Ribeiro joined the Order of the Regulated Tertiary of St. Francis and was ordained a priest on December 7, 1958 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on January 29, 1979 titular bishop of Bagis and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of São Luíz de Cáceres . On May 5th of the same year he received the episcopal ordination by Archbishop Carmine Rocco , the apostolic nuncio in Brazil; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Rio do Sul , Tito Buss , and the Bishop of São Luíz de Cáceres, Máximo André Biennès .

On July 6, 1988, he was appointed prelate of the Borba Territorial Prelature in the Brazilian state of Amazonas . On May 3, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
