José Luis Chavez Botello

José Luis Chávez Botello (born February 8, 1941 in Tototlán ) is a Mexican clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Antequera, Oaxaca .

Life

José Luis Chávez Botello was ordained a priest on December 8, 1969 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Guadalajara and titular bishop of Cova on February 21, 1997 . The Archbishop of Guadalajara, Juan Cardinal Sandoval Íñiguez , donated him episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Girolamo Prigione , Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico , and Adolfo Hernández Hurtado , Auxiliary Bishop in Guadalajara.

On July 16, 2001 he was appointed Bishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez . He was named Archbishop of Antequera, Oaxaca on November 8, 2003, and was introduced to office on January 8 of the next year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 10, 2018.
