José Martins da Silva

José Martins da Silva SDN (born June 14, 1936 in Tiros ; † January 29, 2015 ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Porto Velho .

Life

José Martins da Silva joined the Order of Missionaries of Notre Dame of the Most Holy Sacrament and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1963 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 3, 1978 prelate of the territorial prelature of Vila Rondônia, established on the same date . The Bishop of Luz , Belchior Joaquim da Silva Neto CM , donated him episcopal ordination on April 2nd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Antônio Afonso de Miranda SDN, Coadjutor Bishop of Campanha , and José Eugênio Corrêa , Bishop of Caratinga .

On October 4, 1982 he was appointed Archbishop of Porto Velho . On September 3, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his premature, health-related resignation.
