José Rodríguez Martínez (born December 16, 1994 in Villajoyosa ) is a Spanish football player . Mostly he plays as a central or defensive midfielder .

Club career

Rodríguez began his career at the club of his birthplace Villajoyosa CF . At the age of twelve he moved to the provincial capital Hércules Alicante , where he spent two seasons. At the age of 14, he entered Real Madrid's youth academy , where he started in the Cadete A (U-16) team. In June 2011 he played the international tournament Mundial de Clubes Comunidad de Madrid Sub-18 with the U-17 and was voted best player.

In the summer of 2011, Arsenal tried to serve the midfielder, but ultimately stayed in Madrid and signed a professional contract with Real.

After a season in the club's A youth, Rodríguez was taken on in the summer of 2012 in the squad of the second team Real Madrid Castilla , for which he made his debut in the Segunda División on September 1, 2012 against UD Almería . He made his first appearance in Real Madrid's A-squad on October 31, 2012 in the Spanish Cup against CD Alcoyano . He scored the goal to make it 3-0. He made his debut in the Primera División on December 1, 2012 in the Derbi madrileño against Atlético Madrid .

For the 2014/15 season , Rodríguez moved to Deportivo La Coruña on loan . On July 31, 2015, he signed a four-year contract with Galatasaray Istanbul .

For the 2016/17 season he was signed by the German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 for four years. In his Bundesliga debut, the 3-1 win against FC Augsburg on matchday 3, Rodríguez was sent off after substituting for Jean-Philippe Gbamin in the 85th minute for a gross foul on Dominik Kohr in stoppage time. He was then banned from the DFB for five games.

On January 31, 2017, it was awarded to FC Málaga until the end of the season. He then returned to Mainz 05 and was awarded to Maccabi Tel Aviv at the beginning of September 2017 and to Fortuna Sittard at the end of August 2018 . His contract with Mainz 05 was terminated in August 2019.

National team

Rodríguez made his debut in the Spanish U-17 national team on October 16, 2010 at the age of 15 in qualifying for the 2011 European Championship . In his first game he scored a goal against Moldova. With the U-19, he took part in the finals of the 2013 European Championship and reached the semi-finals. In 2015 he played for the Spanish U-21 national team .
