Clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyon , but also foreign clubs, expressed interest in signing the young player.

In the same season, the defender made his professional debut for the second division team at the age of 17 when he was substituted on in the 14th minute in the game against EA Guingamp on May 10, 2013 . When the score was 0-2, he replaced Alexandre Coeff ; the game was lost 7-0. In May 2014, the team made the promotion to the top French division perfect. On August 9, 2014, he made his first division debut in a 1-0 defeat against FC Nantes . In the following years he was still a regular player and rose again with the team at the end of the season. He remained loyal to RC Lens after relegation and was one of the second best defenders in the league in the 2015/16 season, but the return to first class was missed.

For the 2016/17 season , Gbamin was signed by Bundesliga club Mainz 05 . At Mainz 05 he was a regular player in the defensive midfield from the start. He played 95 competitive games (three goals in the Bundesliga), including five appearances in the group stage of the 2016/17 Europa League . His contract ran until 2023.
