The lessee and owner of the Wickrath paper mill built the Odenkirchen paper mill in Odenkirchen in 1720. It was not on the Niers, but on a small tributary, the Papierbach. The mill, which made writing paper and cardboard , was owned by the Greeven family until it closed in the second half of the 19th century. Later there was a leather factory on the site .
