history

The stone mill derives its name from the mill on the stone , an old tower or a fort, which is associated with a lost Carolingian estate of Geisfurt. It is probably the mill that came to St. Georg Abbey in Cologne in 1158 . In 1560 the mill is operated as an oil mill , in 1764 it was bought as an oil and fulling mill by Messrs Greeven and Weidenfeld in order to use it as a paper mill . The Electoral Court Chamber in Bonn granted the concession for six Riz papers per year (one ream = 480 sheets of 20 × 24 paper). It is not known whether the renovation took place. In 1833 the mill was operated as an oil, fruit and tan mill. The owner Heinz Strasser and eight of his employees were killed in a direct bombing in 1944 . The mill was rebuilt, but closed in 1969 due to a lack of profitability . An 800-year history came to an end with the abandonment of the building.
