Rhu-endly Aurelio Jean-Carlo "Cuco" Martina (born September 25, 1989 in Rotterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch football player who plays on the position of defender . He has been active in the Premier League at Everton FC since the 2017/18 season .
Cuco Martina had previously played for FC Twente Enschede since the 2013/14 season , where he had moved from RBC Roosendaal , where he had previously played for three years in the Eerste Divisie and two years at RKC Waalwijk in the top division. After his time in Enschede, he moved to England in July 2015 for first division club FC Southampton . He stayed there for two years before moving on to Everton. There he was temporarily unconscious on November 2, 2017 after a collision with opponent Maxwell Cornet in the Europa League game against Olympique Lyon and had to be hospitalized, but was able to leave the same evening. After a total of 28 competitive appearances in the 2017/18 season for the "Toffees", he was loaned to the second division team Stoke City and from the end of January 2019 to the Dutch first division team Feyenoord Rotterdam .
Martina has been a national player for Curaçao since 2011, just like his brother Javier . With the team from the Antilles island, both competed in the 2014 World Cup qualification . Martina competed as team captain with his team in the Gold Cup in both 2017 and 2019 . While he was knocked out in the preliminary round in 2017, he survived this two years later with his men before the 0-1 against the USA in the quarterfinals meant the end.
