Josef Anton Zoller (also Joseph Anton Zoller , born February 11, 1730 in Klagenfurt , † February 21, 1791 in Hall in Tirol ) was an Austrian baroque painter .

Life

Josef Anton Zoller was born as the eldest son of the painter Anton Zoller in Klagenfurt and came to Tyrol with the family when his father was granted citizenship in Hall in 1753. He learned from his father and helped with many of his works. From 1763 he created his own frescoes and altarpieces for numerous churches in Tyrol. In doing so, he continued the style of his father, with random excerpts and small improvisations taking the place of conscious composition and the figures showing even more lightness. In the pseudo-architecture he follows the popular scheme of Andrea Pozzo . In addition to frescoes, Zoller created landscape pictures with biblical scenes in gouache . He died in Hall in 1790 without heirs. Joseph and Franz Giner were among his students .

In Vintl , Josef-Anton-Zoller-Strasse was named after him.
