Joseph Franz Baumeister (born January 29, 1857 in Konstanz , † May 3, 1933 in Karlsruhe ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Joseph Franz Baumeister was the son of a carpenter from Constance. From 1873 to 1877 he was trained by the Constance sculptor Hans Baur and then went to Munich . There he was taught by Max von Widnmann at the art academy until 1878 . He then moved to Karlsruhe, where he worked for Carl Steinhäuser from 1879 and for Hermann Volz from 1880 to 1888 . In 1883 he traveled to Rome , in 1884 to Paris . In 1889 he opened his own studio in Karlsruhe . Here he created, among other things, commissions for the Baden Grand Duke Friedrich I : The statues of St. Franziskus and Bernhard von Baden for the newly built Catholic Church of St. Franziskus zu Pforzheim, as well as a statue of Ludwig Wilhelm , the Türkenlouis, which was erected in Rastatt has been.
