Joseph Franz Ratschky (born August 21, 1757 in Vienna ; † May 31, 1810 there ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Ratschky attended the Jesuit high school in Vienna and then studied philosophy at the University of Vienna . In the civil service since 1776, from 1782 he worked at the Landgrave's office for cattle and meat. In 1787 he became secretary of the Upper Austrian government, Leopold Graf Rottenhan, in Linz . 1795 first court secretary, then court counselor and 1807 state and conference councilor.

Ratschky belonged to the Freemason lodge Zur True Eintracht . He was one of the regulars in the Kramer coffee house , which was known at the time. He died in the Mölkerhof at the Schottentor in 1810 . In 1894 the Ratschkygasse in Vienna- Meidling was named after him.

Along with Johann Baptist von Alxinger and Aloys Blumauer, Ratschky is one of the most important representatives of Austrian educational literature . Founded as a writer Ratschky 1777 the Viennese Musenalmanach who appeared to 1796 and published in the all important writers of Vienna. His works include plays, poems and satires. Best known is his satirical work Melchior Striegel , which reflects the French Revolution from the perspective of Austrian Josephinism .
