Joseph Mukasa Zuza

Joseph Mukasa Zuza (born October 2, 1955 in Malembo , Malawi , † January 15, 2015 at Mzimba ) was Bishop of Mzuzu .

Life

Joseph Mukasa Zuza studied theology at the Kachebere Major Seminary in Mchinji and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Mzuzu on July 25, 1982 .

On March 3, 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mzuzu. The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Malawi, Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza , donated him episcopal ordination on May 6 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Chikwawa , Felix Eugenio Mkhori , and the Bishop of Lilongwe , Tarcisius Gervazio Ziyaye .

Zuza has been President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malawi (Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM)) since 2011. He held numerous other offices in the Association of Bishops' Conferences of East Africa (AMECEA) . He was Grand Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) .

He was committed to many social and socio-economic issues in his home country and called for the development of an African culture of their own. He was a participant in the extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family in Rome in October 2014.

Bishop Zuza was killed in a car accident in January 2015.
