Joseph "Joe" Polo (born December 10, 1982 in Duluth , Minnesota ) is a multiple American curling champion, who also competed for the USA at the Olympic Games. He started the sport of curling in the city of Bemidji in 1992 at the age of ten at the Bemidji Curling Club . He currently plays as a substitute for John Shuster's team .
Polo began his international career at the 2003 Junior B World Championship , where he won the bronze medal as a substitute for Kristopher Perkovich's team.
At his first World Cup in 2005 , he played second in Pete Fenson's team and was sixth. The following year he finished fourth with the Fenson team after losing to the Norwegians with Thomas Ulsrud .
Polo took part in the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin on the US team with Skip Pete Fenson and won the bronze medal against David Murdoch's British team in the third place match .
At the 2010 World Cup , he finished fourth with the Fenson team after losing the game for third place against the Scots with David Murdoch. After two tenth places at the 2011 and 2014 World Championships, he came fourth as a substitute for John Shuster's team at the 2017 World Championships .
At the Mixed Doubles World Championship in 2016, she played polo together with Tabitha Peterson and won the bronze medal after beating the Scottish team ( Bruce Mouat and Gina Aitken ).
Polo is a six-time American champion.
In November 2017 he was nominated by the American Federation as a substitute for the US men's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . He played there with John Shuster (Skip), Tyler George (Third), Matt Hamilton (Second) and John Landsteiner (Lead). After five wins and four defeats in the round robin , the Americans moved into the final round. In the semifinals they defeated Canada with Skip Kevin Koe . In the final they beat Sweden with Skip Niklas Edin 10: 7 and won the gold medal.
