Jost Kobusch (born August 3, 1992 in Bielefeld ) is a German mountaineer and book author.
Life
Kobusch grew up in Borgholzhausen . He has five sisters. His parents divorced early. He grew up with his father, a carpenter, and in the care of various au pair girls. At the age of twelve he started climbing in a climbing group at the Peter-August-Böckstiegel-Gesamtschule in Borgholzhausen. Kobusch finished school with a high school diploma and did voluntary military service as a mountain hunter in Berchtesgaden .
Kobusch has lived in Chemnitz since 2016 and studies Sports Engineering at the Technical University of Chemnitz .
climber
In October 2013, Kobusch traveled to Kyrgyzstan to climb Lenin Peak , but had to cancel the ascent due to bad weather. On December 24th, 2013 at 8:12 p.m. he was the first to climb the previously unnamed Pik Yoko (4048 meters). A few days later, the first ascent was officially recognized by Community Based Tourism Kyrgyzstan.
In April 2014, Jost Kobusch climbed the Ama Dablam solo and without artificial oxygen. He is the youngest solo climber on the summit.
On the morning of April 25, 2015, Kobusch filmed an avalanche triggered by an earthquake from the base camp on Mount Everest, which devastated parts of the base camp, "at least 19 people lost their lives and more than 60 were seriously injured". Thanks to this video on YouTube, Kobusch achieved “instant global recognition”. The film sequence reached over 23 million views within a few days. After the avalanche accident, Kobusch gave interviews, including in Spiegel Online and on Sat.1 breakfast television .
On May 1, 2016, Kobusch reached the summit of Annapurna (8091 meters) over the northern flank without the aid of artificial oxygen . It was Kobusch's first summit success on an eight-thousander. This makes him “the youngest and only eighth German mountaineer to have reached this summit.” Kobusch was on the road without Sherpas, but used the “fixed ropes laid by the Sherpas” of the 30 other climbers who reached the summit that day. With the Israeli mountaineer Nadav Ben Yehuda , he played a game of blitz chess below the summit , documented on film by a US mountaineer. "Kobusch wants to register the game as the highest chess game ever played for the" Guinness Book of Records "."
In October 2017 Kobusch succeeded in the first ascent of the 7,296 meter high Nangpai Gosum II . Until Kobusch's solo ascent without artificial oxygen, the mountain was considered the fourth highest unclimbed mountain on earth. From the Advanced Basecamp (5560 meters), Kobusch needed three days via Camp 1 (6400 meters) and Camp 2 (6840 meters) to the summit, which he reached on October 3, 2017. He assessed the difficulty of the ascent with TD (Tres Difficile) according to the International French Adjectival System (IFAS). For this achievement, Kobusch was included in the 2017 selection list - Significant ascents des Piolet d'Or , but was “empty” at the 2018 award.
At the turn of the year 2019/2020, Kobusch planned an attempt to winter ascent of Mount Everest, which many mountaineers saw as critical and not very promising . At the end of February he broke off the attempt at 7,360 meters because he was no longer in top form.
