Judith Oexle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Judith Oexle (born February 4, 1956 in Baden-Baden ) is a German medieval archaeologist .

Life

Judith Oexle already gained her first archaeological experience during her school days when she worked as an excavation assistant on Lake Constance at the age of 15 . She passed her Abitur in 1974 at the Hegau High School in Singen (Hohentwiel) . From 1974 Judith Oexle studied history, art history and prehistory at the universities of Munich , Mainz , Heidelberg and Kiel , where she received her doctorate summa cum laude in 1983 and was awarded the university prize. She received a doctoral grant from the German National Academic Foundation .

In 1983 Judith Oexle took over the management of the archaeological excavations in Konstanz and Ulm at the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office, and from 1987 she was the consultant for urban archeology there . From 1990 she headed the newly founded State Archaeological Museum in Konstanz. Since 1993 she has headed the newly founded Saxon State Office for Archeology and the State Museum for Prehistory Dresden as State Archaeologist of the Free State of Saxony and Director of the State Museum.

In the state office she implemented a financial and time controlling and successfully converted the authority into a state enterprise. This change was partly accompanied by discussions. In 1998 she took over the conception and realization of the first Saxon state exhibition "Time and Eternity" in the St. Marienstern monastery . In 2002 she initiated the establishment of the Pro archaeologia Saxoniae foundation by MIBRAG , which u. a. awards the Werner Coblenz Prize and the Gerhard Bersu Scholarship.

Oexle's leadership style has been criticized as authoritarian. There were also public disputes about the training content of the course in archaeometry at the Bergakademie Freiberg and how to deal with the archaeological finds at Dresden's Neumarkt . The department head Rainer Vollkommer , who is responsible for the State Museum , successfully brought a lawsuit against her. The Sächsische Zeitung reported: "The verdict was clear: You" harassed "museum boss Rainer Vollkommer," since the end of 2004 at the latest, according to plan and determined. "

She resigned as a Saxon state archaeologist on September 14, 2006 and moved to the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior on October 1, 2006 , where she headed Division 54 Urban Development and EU Funding in Department 5 Construction and Housing. Here she advocated the implementation of her thesis, which was publicly presented at a monument preservation conference in 2005 “Reflecting on the preservation of monuments (Part 4)”, that one should say goodbye to the younger monuments from the founding period in order to better focus on the older monuments in the preservation of monuments to be able to concentrate. After her work in the Ministry of the Interior, which ended in November 2008, she moved to the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection . There she was in charge of Section 33 (Nursing and Care for the Elderly) and was also senior representative for the Free State of Saxony. In this ministry she is currently head of division in the fundamental affairs section of Department 5, Social Monitoring, Social Reporting and Statistics, and is preparing the first social reporting for the Free State of Saxony.

Judith Oexle is the niece of the medieval historian Otto Gerhard Oexle .

She is a member of the CDU , a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning (DASL), the Historical Commission of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig and the Alemannic Institute in Freiburg .
