Julian Weber (born August 29, 1994 in Mainz ) is a German athlete who specializes in throwing a javelin . Weber is a sports soldier .

Athletic career

The handball player at the time first threw a 700-gram spear in running shoes and casual clothing in April 2011 "for fun" on Thrower's Day in Saulheim . With 52.27 m he exceeded the competition by around ten meters and qualified directly for the South German B Youth Championships. Four weeks later, his 800 gram javelin flew at the DJMM in Mannheim to 61.71 m, which also meant qualifying for the German A Youth Championships . Stephan Kallenberg (trainer and department head at USC Mainz ) took him “under his wing”.

In 2012 Weber took 4th place in the U20 class at the German Winter Throwing Championships and the German Youth Championships . In 2013 he became German winter throwing champion (U20) and U20 European champion in Rieti . In 2014 Weber was German U23 champion and German runner-up among the active players . In 2015 Weber won silver at the German U23 championships .

In 2016, he achieved a personal best on July 20, 2016 in Offenburg with 88.04 m, which put him in fourth place in the world rankings. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he came in 9th place. On August 27, 2016, he threw 87.39 m at the Diamond League meeting in Paris, and at the ISTAF Berlin on September 3, 2016, he increased his best distance to 88.29 m, both times he took second place.

In 2017 Weber won the European Winter Throwing Cup in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with a championship record of 85.85 m. Due to an elbow injury and a double herniated disc , he was then unable to compete for 16 months. He then came fourth at the German Championships in 2018 with 84.62 m.

In 2019 Weber became German runner-up with 86.60 m. He threw his season best at the European Team Championship in Bydgoszcz with 86.86 m and scored 12 points for the German team. Because Bernhard Seifert did not start because of weakness in his form, Weber was able to start at the world championships in Doha and finished there in 6th place with 81.26 m.

Weber has been part of the Olympic squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) since November 2018 and was previously in the perspective squad .
