Julius Eberhard von Massow

Julius Eberhard Wilhelm Ernst von Massow (born April 11, 1750 in Neuguth , Schlochau district ; † July 22, 1816 there ) was a Prussian lawyer and politician .

Massow was the son of a Prussian Colonel Joachim Anton von Massow (1706–1781) and his wife Katharina Sophia von Tettau (1723–1798), daughter of the commander of Peitz Johann Eberhard von Tettau and his wife Dorothea Charlotte von Huss.

Life

In 1770 he was trainee lawyer at the East Prussian court in Königsberg and in 1773 director of the Landvogteigericht in Konitz in West Prussia . After becoming Vice President of the government in Stettin in 1777 , he took over the board of trustees of the Marienstift in 1778 . In 1783 he became director of the Pomeranian consistory , in 1784 first president of the Szczecin government and the Pomeranian state judicial colleges, and in 1798 real secret minister of state and justice . He headed the special department for the provinces of South and New East Prussia and was responsible for “spiritual matters”, i.e. churches and education. From 1802/1803 he was also Chief President of the Chamber Court . From 1800 he prepared a comprehensive educational and university reform in the Prussian lands. He wrote textbooks on administrative law, the second edition of which appeared in three volumes in 1816 after his death.

In 1789 he married Wilhelmine Johanna Luise Spalding (1758–1828) daughter of the war and domain councilor Samuel Wilhelm Spalding and his wife Sophie Gericke.
