June Anderson

June Anderson (* the thirtieth December 1952 in Boston ) is an American opera singer in the vocal category Soprano .

Anderson studied singing and literature at Yale University. In 1978 she made her debut as Queen of the Night at the New York City Opera , "where she took on all the roles with which Sills had earned the name of 'fastest voice alive': Gilda, Rosina, Lucia and Elvira." Rome made her European debut in the title role of Rossini's Semiramide .

The main focus of Anderson's repertoire is made up of the bel canto operas by Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti . In the 1980s and 1990s in particular, there was a large number of appearances and recordings, including works such as Maometto II , Armida and La donna del lago , which were rarely performed . Anderson became one of the leading bel canto interpreters. The repertoire now includes works by Richard Strauss ( Capriccio , Naples 2002, Daphne , Venice 2005) as well as modern operas such as Henze's Die Bassariden (Paris 2005) or John Adams ' Nixon in China (planned for 2012).

Anderson was the first non-Italian to receive the Bellini d'Oro Prize . In 1992 she received a Grammy in the category "Best Classical Album". In the film Amadeus by Miloš Forman (1984) she sang Queen of the Night (without appearing).
