"Burg Treis", seat of the court

The Treis Justice Office was a court of ordinary jurisdiction with its seat in Treis an der Lumda .

history

A Treis court was mentioned in a document as early as 1237. At the provisional end of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel in 1807, Treis was the seat of the Treis office , which was responsible for both administration and jurisdiction.

The reorganization of the judiciary in the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 led to the separation of jurisdiction and administration. The canton of Ebsdorf was now responsible for the administration, the Ebsdorf Peace Court for the jurisdiction. The peace court was subordinate to the district court of Marburg , which was responsible for the district of Marburg . A court in Treis no longer existed.

With the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1813, the separation of jurisdiction and administration was reversed and the Electorate of Hesse reintroduced the Treis office in 1814.

With an edict of June 29, 1821, an administrative reform was carried out in the Electorate of Hesse and the administration was separated from the judiciary. The office of Fronhausen with Treis was assigned to the district of Marburg in terms of administration with the office of Wetter . The Fronhausen Justice Office was established as the court of first instance . In Treis, an assistant office was initially established, which was spun off as an independent Treis justice office in 1831. In 1833 the judicial district was enlarged. In 1821 it consisted of the towns of Treis, Nordeck , Wermertshausen and Winnen and comprised around 2,000 people. With the law on the reorganization of lower court districts of July 13, 1833, Treis received Ebsdorf , Erbenhausen , Hachborn , Hassenhausen , Ober-Mittel- and Unterhausen , Heskem , Ilschhausen , Leidenhofen and Roßberg and was now responsible for 6,303 people.

After the German war of 1866 which took place annexation Kurhessen by Prussia in 1866. Treis, however, came through a land swap to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . The Treis Justice Office was abolished in 1866 and its district distributed. The district court of Giessen was now responsible for Treis himself . The now Prussian parts of the district were assigned to the judicial offices (from 1867: local courts) Fronhausen and Marburg .
