The Carinthian Caritas Association is a social aid organization of the Roman Catholic Church in the Austrian state of Carinthia and part of Caritas Austria . It is an independent institution and reports to the Bishop of the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt .

The Carinthian Caritas Association is divided into nine areas:

Josef Marketz was the director of the Carinthian Caritas Association until December 2019 , while Marion Fercher is the commercial director. In addition to the headquarters in Klagenfurt, there are branch offices in Villach , St. Veit , Spittal , Wolfsberg , Friesach , Bad Eisenkappel , Maria Elend , St. Andrä / Lav. , Feldkirchen , Eberstein , Obervellach , Globasnitz and Althofen . A total of 887 Caritas employees are on duty, plus 458 parish employees.

Social and financial emergencies

In the area of ​​"social and financial emergencies" there are two main areas:

  • Counseling: Social workers offer free, confidential counseling. When your own possibilities (earnings, more economical budgeting, etc.) are exhausted, state claims are discussed ( unemployment benefit , emergency assistance ). Women who are victims of human trafficking or forced prostitution also receive protection and the necessary support.
  • Direct help: In cooperation with the Vinzenzgemeinschaft in Carinthia and the association “share”, food is distributed. The Caritas shop "carla" sells clothing, household goods and books. Financial support is also provided in emergency situations.

Advice and psychotherapy for people in crisis

Individuals, couples or families are advised free of charge on partnership problems, separation, legal issues. Addiction advice is also free. This tries to understand the background of the addictive behavior and points out outpatient and state treatment options.

The emergency number 142 is available around the clock. Online counseling by telephone counseling is also anonymous.

Shelter and housing

For people who have lost their apartment, there is a house in Klagenfurt with 51 apartments measuring 21 m² and four double apartments measuring 42 m². In Althofen and Friesach there are 4 houses for a total of 48 people in full-time assisted living communities. The day care center “Eggerheim” offers the homeless daily food, clothing, sanitary facilities and a washing machine.

Work and employment

magdas LOKAL in Klagenfurt, Stauderplatz 1, has been a training facility since 2016, which offers recognized refugees and people with a migration background a chance for integration and training.

In cooperation with SPAR , a SPAR supermarket is operated on Tirolerstraße in Villach. Here people over 50 and the long-term unemployed get temporary employment. The aim is to reintegrate them into the regular labor market.

Asylum, Integration and Migration

The Caritas Association of Carinthia offers refugee families care in their own and external quarters. In addition, free German integration courses are offered, where voluntary teachers pay special attention to improving conversational skills. In Klagenfurt, Villach, Wolfsberg and St. Gertraud there are also learning cafés where students with a migration background can get free tutoring.

Care and maintenance

908 employees support families in looking after and caring for relatives:

  • Mobile visiting service : placement of volunteers who bring variety to the everyday life of single elderly people.
  • Care at home: Nursing assistants and qualified health workers support family caregivers so that older people can live at home for as long as possible.
  • 24-hour care : For people who require a lot of care, suitable carers are found, relatives are supported on their first visit and regular quality visits are carried out by qualified nursing staff.
  • Nursing home : If a life at home is no longer possible, the Carinthian Caritas Association offers professional care in nine old people's homes and nursing homes.
  • Mobile hospice support: Volunteers who have completed relevant training work in terminal care, both at home and in nursing homes and in hospitals.

People with disabilities

People with disabilities find a job in four workshops in Althofen, Friesach and Globasnitz / Globasnica. Depending on the location, there is a carpentry, clay workshop, laundry, gardening, sewing workshop, art and creative workshop, carpet weaving, or assembly, sorting and enveloping are carried out.

The four houses for full-time assisted living in Althofen and Friesach are also open to people with disabilities.

The income consists largely of fees for services (over 80%) as well as donations and church contributions (6%). In 2017 the total budget was 42,658,292 euros.
