The Konomine-ji ( Japanese 神峯寺 ), the Go Chikurinzan (竹林山) and Jizoin (地蔵院) in Yasuda ( Prefecture Kōchi ), is a temple of the Buzan direction (豊山派) of Shingon Buddhism belongs . In the traditional count, it is the 27th temple on the Shikoku pilgrimage route .

history

According to tradition, a shrine was built there during the reign of Empress Jingū , in which Amaterasu and other deities were worshiped. Later on, Emperor Shomu is said to have instructed priest Gyōki in Tempyō 2 (730) to build a temple there. Gyōki himself made an eleven-faced Kannon for the temple, where Buddhist and Shinto gods were worshiped. In 804 priest Kūkai visited the temple, which he called "Kannon Hall" (観 音 堂).

After the Meiji Restoration , Buddhism was strongly pushed back in favor of Shintoism, especially in the first few years: the Kōnomine-ji was torn down; all that remained was the shrine of the same name. In the middle of the Meiji period , a former monk of the temple built a small place of prayer on the remains. It was only at the beginning of the Taishō period that the opportunity arose to transfer the local Jizō-in (地 蔵 院) from a village in the prefecture of Ibaraki and to begin building a temple complex.

investment

You enter the temple complex through the temple gate (山門, Sammon), which is designed here as a Niō gate (仁王 門). You continue to climb until you come to the monk area of the temple. When crossing this narrow area you can see the bell tower (鐘楼, Shōrō; 1) on the right-hand side before a long staircase goes up to the small main hall (本 堂, Hondō; 2). The hall dedicated to the temple founder, the Daichidō (大師 堂; 3), is on a separate level.

Attractions

Behind the abbey residence in the monk's area is a Japanese-style garden with flowers in all seasons. The nightingale can be heard at the time of the plum blossom. On both sides of the stone stairs are trees that are several hundred years old.
