The Shinshō-ji ( Japanese 津 照 寺 ), usually called Tsudera ( 津 寺 ), with the Go Hōjuzan ( 宝珠 山 ) and Shingon'in ( 真言 院 ) in the city of Muroto ( Kōchi Prefecture ), is a temple that goes to Buzan ( 豊 山 派 ) of Shingon Buddhism . In the traditional count, it is the 25th temple on the Shikoku pilgrimage route .

history

Originally the temple was created by the Chōsokabe and later promoted by the Yamanouchi . At the beginning of the Meiji period , the temple was dissolved and the land was distributed to the farmers in the area. In 1883 the temple complex could be rebuilt, but on a smaller area.

The main cult figure is called "helmsman Jizō " ( 楫 取 地 蔵 ; Kajitori Jizō). It received this name because Jizō in the form of a large, strong priest appeared to the first prince of the Ymanouchi, Yamanouchi Kazuto ( 山 内 一 豊 ; 1546-1605) when he was in distress and steered him safely to the shore. Since “Kajitori” can also be spelled as 火 事 取 , ie as “Savior from distress”, this sacred Jizō also has this task.

investment

If you have passed the simple temple gate ( 山門 , Sammon; 1), on the right you will find the hall in which the temple founder is venerated, the Daidhidō ( 大師 堂 ; 2) from 1963. To the also modern main hall, ( 本 堂 , Hondō; 4), it dates from 1975, if you knock on the stairs, you pass the Niō gate, which also functions as a bell tower ( 仁王 門 兼 鐘楼 , Niō-mon ken Shōrō; 3). It is built in an unusual style and is reminiscent of a gate to a dragon palace (竜 宮, Ryūgū). A sutras-copying priest, Shakyōdaishi ( 写 経 大師 ), made of stone, stands on the temple grounds .

The Ichiki Shrine ( 一 木 神社 ; S) is halfway up the same hill .
