Vohwinkeler Straße , Bahnstraße , Kaiserstraße and Gräfrather Straße intersect at this traffic junction . The rail road runs north on Lienhard place and Vohwinkeler station over to the districts Tesche , Wieden , acid house further Aprath and Wülfrath . The Kaiserstraße leads east to Hammerstein , Sonnborn to Elberfeld . The Gräfrather Straße leads south to the districts of Roßkamp and Solingen - Gräfrath . The Vohwinkeler street whose former name King Street was leading west to Haan - Gruiten and on to Dusseldorf .
The Vohwinkeler Street and the imperial road are as federal highway 228 and highway road and Gräfrather road as a national road 224 classified.
The land line of the Wuppertal suspension railway spans the street via Vohwinkeler Straße and Kaiserstraße . The arch of the suspension railway structure is extremely wide and bears the number 9.
history
The route of the Gräfrather Strasse and Bahnstrasse was previously part of the Provincial Road Essen – Solingen , which was laid out in 1815, and goes back at least to the 14th century.
Kaiserplatz was given its name on September 20, 1888 in honor of the German emperors from the Hohenzollern family.
In the first half of the 20th century, a grandfather clock stood as a prominent focal point at the intersection , which was called the Persil clock because of the detergent adverts with a picture of a woman in a pure white dress on the pillar . This clock, which shaped the image of the square, was badly damaged in 1942 by a derailed tram coming from Gräfrath and was never rebuilt.
In 1899, the von der Heydt-Kersten & Söhne bank built a representative residential and commercial building in the intersection area and was the first bank on site to operate a branch. The bank and the branch were taken over by Commerzbank in the early 1970s.
