The Kalamazoo River is a 267-kilometer tributary of Lake Michigan in the US state of Michigan .
It crosses Allegan , Barry , Eaton , Van Buren , Kalamazoo , Calhoun , Jackson , Hillsdale , Kent and Ottawa Counties , draining an area of 5230 km². At the mouth in New Richmond the mean discharge is 52.8 m³ / s, at Battle Creek on the upper reaches of the river the mean discharge is 9.1 m³ / s.
The two headwaters, the North Branch and the South Branch Kalamazoo River, arise just a few kilometers from each other. The South Branch rises in North Adams in Moscow Township in northeast Hillsdale County. It then flows through Homer and joins the North Branch in Albion . The North Branch rises near Farewell and Pine Hills Lake in southern Jackson County and joins the South Branch at Albion in Calhoun County .
Major tributaries of the Kalamazoo River are Rice Creek , Wilder Creek , Wabascon Creek , Battle Creek River , Augusta Creek , Portage Creek , Gun River , Swan Creek, and the Rabbit River .
