Kalkfeld is a settlement in Namibia , around 65 kilometers southwest of the city of Otjiwarongo . Kalkfeld is located halfway between Otjiwarongo and Omaruru in the Otjiwarongo constituency , on the main road C33 . The village was downgraded from the official status of a village to a settlement in 1991 .

Economy and Infrastructure

Kalkfeld and the surrounding area are dominated by agriculture . The place was once a flourishing one with an important loading station for cattle on the Kranzberg – Otavi railway line . Since the late 1980s, more and more residents have been moving away and the place is becoming increasingly dilapidated. The economy should be stimulated again since 2019 by the free sale of land to companies. The completion of a marketplace in 2015 had not brought about any upturn.

Kalkfeld has a sewage system and a branch of the Namibia Post .

Touristic

The 190 million year old fossilized dinosaur tracks of Otjihaenamaparero are located on the Otjihaenamparero Farm about 29 kilometers outside of Kalkfeld . They have been a National Monument in Namibia since 1951 . Mount Etjo is located around 35 km southeast of Kalkfeld .
