Kanybek Osmonaliev
Kanybek Osmonalijew ( Russian Каныбек Осмоналиев ; born November 19, 1953 in Frunze , Kyrgyz SSR, USSR ) is a former Soviet weightlifter . He became Olympic flyweight champion in 1980 .
Career
Kanybek Osmonalijew, of Kyrgyz origin, began lifting weights as a teenager in Frunze . He completed a history degree, which he completed as a graduate historian. The 1.58 m tall athlete was a member of Burewestnik Frunze and started in the lightest weight class that existed in his time, the flyweight, which had its weight limit of 52 kg. In contrast to many of his competitors, he usually had no weight problems, so that he was usually the lightest in his weight class, which helped him to several international and national titles.
Kanybek Osmonalijew celebrated his first major successes in 1977. He took 3rd place that year at the Soviet flyweight championship with 230 kg (102.5–127.5) behind Valentin Polonski, 235 kg a. Adam Hnatiw , 232.5 kg. In 1978 he was the first Soviet flyweight champion with 235 kg (100-135) in front of Adam Hnatiw, 227.5 kg and was then used at the European Championships in 1978 in Havířov . There he won the flyweight straight away with a duel of 237.5 kg (105–132.5) ahead of György Köszegi , Hungary , 237.5 kg (105–132.5) and Béla Oláh , Hungary, 235 kg (105– 130). He benefited from his lighter body weight compared to Köszegi. In the same year he was in Gettysburg also world champion . There he reached a duel of 240 kg (105-135), with which he won in front of Tadeusz Golik , Poland , 237.5 kg and Francesco Casamayor , Cuba , 230 kg.
1979 occupied Kanybek Osmonalijew in the Soviet championship in flyweight with 235 kg (105-130) "only" the 3rd place behind his predecessor Alexander Voronin , who on 240 kg (107.5-132.5) and Alexander Senschin, 235 kg (97.5-137.5). But he was used together with Alexander Voronin at the World Championships in Saloniki in 1979 and won there, again due to his lower body weight, with 242.5 kg (105-137.5) in front of Alexander Voronin and Ferenc Hornyak from Hungary, both like him , reached 242.5 kg in a duel.
In the 1980 Olympic year, Kanybek Osmonalijew won 245 kg (107.5-137.5) again in the Soviet championship due to his lower body weight before Alexander Senschin, who also reached 245 kg (102.5-142.5). He also benefited from his low body weight at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and was Olympic champion with 245 kg (107.5-137.5) ahead of the two North Koreans Ho Bong Chol and Han Gyong Si and Béla Oláh, all of whom were the same in a duel Performance as he achieved.
Kanybek Osmonalijew continued his career for a year after his Olympic victory and finished second in the Soviet flyweight championship in 1981 with 245 kg (110-135) behind Valentin Polonski, who was also 245 kg (102.5-142.5) ) scored.
