Karen Moustgaard Jespersen (born January 17, 1947 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish journalist and politician .

Life

Jespersen is the daughter of a worker and a delicatessen woman. She attended the Rysensteen Gymnasium and worked as a journalist after completing her studies. a. for Dagbladet Information and the newsroom of Danish Broadcasting Corporation . For many years she was a member of the Social Democrats , for which she was elected to the Folketing on December 12, 1990 . From January 25, 1993 to January 28, 1994 and from September 27, 1994 to February 23, 2000 she was a member of the Danish government as Minister of Social Affairs. From February 23, 2000 to November 27, 2001, she was Danish Minister of the Interior . She took more and more a critical stance on social democratic immigration policy, which she described as too indulgent and generous. Finally, in 2004, she left her party.

She joined the right-wing liberal party Venstre and has held a seat in parliament since 2007. From September 2007 to April 2009 she was Minister for Welfare and Equality in the liberal-conservative government of Anders Fogh Rasmussen III .

Despite her change of political position, Jespersen does not want to see any change in her basic convictions: “My core values ​​are the same” (“My core convictions have remained unchanged”). She speaks out against Turkey's membership in the European Union .

With the book Islamister og Naivister , published in 2005 in response to the disputes over the Mohammed caricatures . Et anklageskrift (Islamists and Naivists. An indictment), which she wrote with her husband Ralf Pittelkow , warns her against underestimating the Islamists who have set themselves the goal of Islamizing Europe. At the same time, she recognizes some characteristics in Islam that are also characteristic of National Socialism and Communism . Jespersen justifies her criticism of Islam with the words: "I think we will disappoint freedom-loving Muslims if we do not fight radical Islamists."

In 2012 Jespersen announced that he did not want to apply for a parliamentary seat again. Instead, she will bring more energy into the right-wing newspaper project Den korte Avis .
