Karl Baumeister (painter)
Karl Baumeister , often also Carl Baumeister , (born January 24, 1840 in Zwiefalten , † December 24, 1932 ibid) was a German painter .
Life
After working as a lithographer with E. Lingg in Ulm , Baumeister studied from October 1855 at the Munich Art Academy with Hermann Anschütz , Joseph Schlotthauer and Philipp Foltz . He stayed in Munich until 1912 and then returned to his hometown.
Baumeister was mainly concerned with paintings with religious themes in a style close to the Nazarenes , which included old German, romantic and classical elements. His main work was the painting of the rosary chapel of Moos Castle near Lindau, created between 1882 and 1886 . He painted the walls of the chapel with depictions of the Joyful , Glorious and Sorrowful Rosary . He also furnished the neo-Gothic hall of Wolfegg Castle with five images of saints and created numerous altarpieces in Upper Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. His works are strongly inspired by Peter von Cornelius , whose work he got to know as a scholarship holder on a trip to Italy.
