Karl Kehrer

Karl Kehrer (born October 10, 1849 in Worms , † May 17, 1924 in Berlin ) was a Prussian general of the artillery .

Life

After attending grammar school, Kehrer joined the Hessian artillery corps in Darmstadt in 1866 and took part in the campaign against Prussia . In 1869/70 he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School in Berlin. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he was wounded in the Battle of Gravelotte . In 1872 he was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army . After serving as a troop officer in various artillery units, he started teaching at the field artillery school in Jüterbog in 1891 . In 1893 he was employed as head of the artillery examination commission in Berlin and in 1899 as commander of the 29th Baden field artillery brigade in Freiburg im Breisgau . Here he was promoted to major general in 1900 . In 1901 he advanced to the position of inspector of the field artillery shooting school in Jüterbog and finally in 1903 to the position of President of the Artillery Examination Commission in Berlin. As such, he was involved in the development of the German artillery material, in particular in the testing of the 42 cm fortress guns ( Dicke Bertha ). In 1904 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on March 5, 1908, he was awarded the character of general of the artillery.

His final resting place is in the south-west cemetery Stahnsdorf .
