Karl Knauer (politician)

Max Karl Knauer (born February 11, 1872 in Fürth am Berg , † March 18, 1951 in Reichenbach ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Karl Knauer was born the son of a master weaver and farmer in Fürth am Berg in Upper Franconia . After graduating from primary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a painter and varnisher, which he completed with the journeyman's examination. He then worked as a journeyman painter and worked as an independent master painter in Sonneberg from 1899 to 1909 .

From April 1909 to December 1919 he worked as an editor at the Thuringian Volksfreund . In addition, he was chairman of the Sonneberg local health insurance fund from 1900 to 1919 . In 1904 he participated in the founding of the consumer association in Sonneberg, as its chairman of the supervisory board he acted in the following years. In addition, he worked from 1906 to 1919 as chairman of the union cartel in Sonneberg.

Knauer joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) during the German Empire and was elected chairman of the SPD Sonneberg. He was a member of the Sonneberg municipal council from 1909 to 1919 and was a member of the state parliament in the state parliament of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen from 1903 to 1918 .

After the November Revolution Knauer served from November 12, 1918 to April 1, 1922 as State Councilor in the government of the Free State of Saxony-Meiningen . From December 1919 to July 1920 he was a member of the People's Council of Thuringia as a member of the Free State of Saxony-Meiningen. After the formation of the state of Thuringia , he was a member of the state parliament there from June 1920 to February 1927 .

Knauer was first mayor from January 1920 to December 1922 and from December 1922 until he was put on hold on July 1, 1924, district director in Sonneberg. From July 1925 to March 1930 he was again the mayor of the community in Sonneberg. In 1933 he was dismissed from the Thuringian civil service due to the “ Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service ”.

He then moved to Teuschnitz in Upper Franconia , where he was mayor from 1945 to 1948. Other sources, in turn, prove that he was mayor in the municipality of Reichenbach from 1945 to 1948/50.
