After completing his training, he was employed in the Hanomag design office in Hanover-Linden . During the Weimar Republic he constructed - together with the engineer Fidelis Böhler and Hellmuth Butenuth - in 1924 the so-called “Hanomag Kommissbrot”, the “ Kleine Hanomag 2/10 ”. The automobile was presented at the automobile exhibition in the same year and caused a sensation because as a small and especially inexpensive automobile it closed a gap in the car market. The small Hanomag 2/10 was consequently produced on the assembly line due to the great demand in the following years , while it was further developed into the "Cabriolet 3/16". The cabriolet won the ADAC gold medal at the Nürburgring in 1929 and was then also produced by Hanomag as a forward control unit for commercial vehicle construction .

After Fidelis Böhler left, Karl Pollich rose to become chief engineer at Hanomag for both passenger car and truck production and occupied this position for almost the next four decades.

From 1929 onwards, Pollich designed increasingly larger and more comfortable sedans , including

  • 1931 the “Kurier” with 23 HP , which for the first time had an all-steel body instead of the previous wooden structure;
  • 1939 during the time of National Socialism the type " Autobahn " with 32 HP and a top speed of 115 km / h; the type construction was stopped in the Second World War in 1941.

In 1950, during the reconstruction years, Pollich constructed the extremely successful "1.5 t diesel express truck".

Karl Pollich is considered to be the "father" of both the Kommissbrot and the Autobahn - both vehicles are on display in the Hannover Historical Museum .
