Karl Schlösser (born June 2, 1857 in Mannheim , † August 8, 1925 in Schaftlach ) was a German ophthalmologist and art collector.

Life

Karl Schlösser grew up in Munich, where his father, the particular Ludwig Schlösser, had settled. In 1876 he passed the Abitur at the Munich Maximiliansgymnasium , among others with Rudolf von Hößlin , Gustav von Schoch , Carl Seitz and Ludwig Wüllner . He then studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Göttingen. In 1877 he became a member of the Corps Isaria in Munich . In Göttingen he joined the Corps Hannovera in 1879 . In 1882 he received his medical license. In 1883 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. He then worked as August von Rothmund's assistant at the Munich University Eye Clinic, where he qualified as a professor in the field of ophthalmology in 1887 . Initially a private lecturer, he was appointed associate professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in 1900 and founded a private ophthalmic institute in Munich, which was one of the larger institutions of this type. In 1914/15 he was employed as a senior staff doctor at the stage inspection of the 2nd Army of the Bavarian military hospital department and was awarded the Military Merit Order of the 4th class with crown and swords . He died on his country estate "Allgäuhaus" near Schaftlach in Upper Bavaria .

His scientific field of work included work on cataracts , punctiform corneal inflammation , the use of mercury oxide in ophthalmology, measurement of the pupil size , extraction of iron fragments using magnets as well as the accommodation of lensless eyes and the assessment of general ailments through visual field examinations .

From 1904, Schlösser was the first chairman of the Munich Corpsphilister Association . In the Association of Old Corps Students he was 2nd Chairman of the Central Committee. The Corps Isaria elected him an honorary member. Since locks had no children, he left his two Corps considerable part of his fortune as a legacy , this was as the Corps Hannovera Foundation conducted.

Karl Schlösser was a well-known art collector. In his collection of paintings, artists from the Munich School formed a focus. After his death, his collections were auctioned in two auctions on November 14, 1931 and December 9, 1931 at the Hugo Helbig Gallery in Munich.
