Karl Wilhelm von Waldow (born December 31, 1777 in Wolgast ; † March 16, 1836 in Cologne ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Wilhelm Leopold von Waldow (* August 3, 1718; † February 6, 1788) and his wife Julie Wilhelmine, born von Waldow from the Adamsdorf family.

Military career

On August 1, 1792, Waldow joined the "von Prittwitz" dragoon regiment of the Prussian army as a Junker . During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy and the battles near Stromberg, Harnbach, Altstadt, Nutzweiler, Weißenburg and in the battle of Kaiserslautern . By mid-November 1796, he was promoted to second lieutenant . During the Fourth Coalition War , Waldow was shot in the right cheek during an attack on the square of the 85th French Infantry Regiment during the Battle of Auerstedt .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Waldow was put on half pay on December 4, 1807 and aggregated to the "von Wedel" dragoon regiment on July 14, 1808 . On September 13, 1808, he came to the Neumärkische Dragoon Regiment No. 3 as Prime Lieutenant . There he became staff assistant master on December 26, 1811 and as such took part in the battle of Großgörschen during the wars of liberation , where he was wounded and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He fought near Bautzen and rose to Rittmeister and squadron chief on November 1, 1813 . In the further course of the war Waldow fought near Laon and Paris and received the Iron Cross First Class for Ligny . He also fought in the battles at May, Neuilly, Oulchy-le-Chateau, Sezanna, Trillport, Claye , Wavre and Namur.

On March 29, 1815 he was transferred to the 4th Dragoons Regiment , where he was promoted to major on April 5, 1816. On May 11, 1827, he was appointed director of the Division School of the 15th Division . On March 20, 1831, Waldow was commissioned to lead the 6th Uhlan Regiment . On February 28, 1832 appointed regimental commander and as such he was on 30 March 1832 to lieutenant colonel , and on March 30, 1834 to Colonel promoted. On September 23, 1835 he received his departure with the character of major general and a pension of 1750 thalers. He died on March 16, 1836 in Cologne.

Waldow married on July 21, 1819 in Altenburg, Aachen district, Arnoldine Hubertine Freiin von Blanchart (* May 25, 1798 - † March 4, 1887). The couple had several children:
