Karl Zöppritz (politician)

Karl Adam Zöppritz (born April 26, 1812 in Darmstadt ; † October 5, 1900 in Mergelstetten ) was a Hessian entrepreneur and liberal politician and former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Land estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

family

Karl Zöppritz was the son of the entrepreneur and MP Andreas Zöppritz (1760-1826) and his wife Katharina Margaretha nee Schwarz (1774-1856). Karl Zöppritz, who was a Protestant denomination, married Margarethe Sophie, born Weidenbusch (1813–1881) in Darmstadt in 1835.

The following children were born from the marriage:

1. Jacob Carl Zöppritz (1838–1885), Dr. phil., PD of mathematics and theoretical physics in Tübingen, professor in Gießen and Königsberg
2. Georg Ludwig Victor Zöppritz (* 1839), businessman, factory owner in Darmstadt, Paris, Neubolheim
3. Christian Wilhelm Rudolf Zoeppritz (1841–1873), Dr. phil., private scholar, lived in Alexandria , editor of letters to and from Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi
4. Catharina Margarethe Elisabeth ( Elsa ) Kugler, b. Zöppritz (1845–1921), married I. 1869 Bernhard von Kugler , Dr. phil., full professor of history in Tübingen, married II. 1902 Karl Friedrich Ludwig Ernst Höpfner, * 1836
5. Adelheid Tröltsch, b. Zöppritz (* 1847), married in 1865 to Wilhelm Tröltsch , merchant in Alexandria, manufacturer in Weißenburg, Kgl. Bayer. Commerce Council
6. Karl Hermann Zöppritz (* 1851), businessman in London
7. Otto Stefan Friedrich Zöppritz (1853–1922), businessman and factory owner in Mergelstetten, father of the seismologist Karl Bernhard Zoeppritz and the chemist, manufacturer and anthroposophist Rudolf Zoeppritz
8. Georg Florentin Adolf Zoeppritz (1855–1939), engineer, managed the development of the Höllentalklamm , honorary citizen of Garmisch-Partenkirchen

education and profession

Karl Zöppritz was co-founder of the Gebr. Zoeppritz ceiling factory in Mergelstetten together with his brother Georg and Christian . In 1879 he was appointed to the Council of Commerce and in 1892 to the secret Council of Commerce.

politics

In the 11th and 14th electoral terms (1847-1849 and 1851-1856) Karl Zöppritz was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the constituency Starkenburg 2 / Groß-Gerau . In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . From 1849 to 1850 he was an elected member of the first chamber.
