Karl Friedrich Heinrich Theodor Freiherr von Reitzenstein (born November 12, 1797 in Luplow , † June 18, 1878 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Karl comes from the Haus Unter-Schwarzenstein line of the traditional Franconian Reitzenstein family . He was the son of the Prussian major Georg von Reitzenstein (1768–1821) and his wife Amalie, née von Voss (1768–1846).

Military career

Reitzenstein had been in Russian service since mid-June 1813, initially as a second lieutenant in the entourage of General Tschernyschow . During the Wars of Liberation he was wounded in the battle near Beelitz and awarded the Order of St. George V Class. After the end of the war Reitzenstein took his leave in mid-July 1816 and joined the Prussian army on January 7, 1817 . He was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the Guards Dragoon Regiment , assigned in mid-April and from 1827 as a regimental adjutant. In the same year he was accepted into the Order of St. John . In May 1828 Reitzenstein was ordered to serve with Major General von Nostitz and shortly afterwards detached from the embassy in Saint Petersburg to take part in the Russo-Turkish War . He took part in the Battle of Shumen , received the Order of St. Anna IV. Class and was after his return home by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. awarded the order Pour le Mérite .

In mid-April 1830 Reitzenstein advanced to prime lieutenant and at the end of the month became adjutant to Prince Albrecht of Prussia . Left in this position, he rose to Rittmeister on March 30, 1832 and was appointed wing adjutant to the king. From March 30, 1834 Reitzenstein was active as a wing adjutant and received the order of St. Anna II. Class in diamonds for his participation in the revue of Kalisch . At the beginning of May 1838 he was promoted to major. After the king's death, Reitzenstein was commanded to the Obermarschallamt in mid-September 1840 while remaining in his position as wing adjutant. In this position he rose to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1844 , until he was commanded from September 28, 1844 to May 21, 1845 for the Guard Cuirassier Regiment . Then Reitzenstein was commissioned to lead the 2nd Uhlan Regiment , appointed him regimental commander on January 13, 1846 and promoted him to colonel on March 27, 1847 . On April 6, 1848, he took his leave with the uniform of the wing adjutants and a pension .

After his departure, Reitzenstein was given the character of major general on December 20, 1856 , before being put up for disposal on November 12, 1861 with his pension . In the following years he received further honors. In mid-June 1871 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves, on February 21, 1875 the character of Lieutenant General and on January 18, 1878, on the occasion of his 50 years of ownership, the crown of the Order Pour le Mérite.

family

Reitzenstein married on April 18, 1833 with Sophie von Jasmund (1812-1892). The later District President of Lorraine Friedrich von Reitzenstein (1834-1897) emerged from the marriage.
