Boundary

The Alpine Club division of the Eastern Alps (AVE) delimits the Southern Carnic Alps as follows: In the south, west and partly in the north the mountains are bounded by the Piave , in the north by Santo Stefano di Cadore to Sappada . Via Forni Avolti it goes into the Degano Valley and Comeglians . Then the course follows the Val Calda . Other border points are Paluzzo , Ligosullo and Paularo . Followed by the Rio Turrico , the mountains continue to Forca Pradulina and along the Frattengraben . This is followed by Pontebba and the valley of the Fella . This flows into the Tagliamento , which forms the further border. This is followed by the northern Italian plain, where San Stefano and the Piave are reached again.

Surrounding mountain groups are the Dolomites in the west, the Carnic main ridge in the north and the Julian Alps in the east .
