Kasim Kamenica (born October 28, 1954 in Goražde ) is a Bosnian handball coach and former handball player .

Career

as a player

The handball goalkeeper began playing handball in his hometown at RK Radnički Goražde when he was 17. After five seasons he moved to FK Ferizaj. In 1980 he went to Železničar Niš, with whom he won the Yugoslav Cup in 1982.

as a trainer

At the age of 28, Kamenica moved to the sidelines of Radnički Goražde and Borac Urosevac. In 1985 he came to RK Pelister Bitola , who was then overshadowed by Metaloplastika Šabac . During this time he also took over the post of Yugoslav junior national coach. With this team he won the Junior World Championship in 1987 and World Championship bronze in 1989. In 1988 he was signed by the RK Zagreb , with whom he won the Yugoslav and Croatian championship titles and cups several times. He triumphed in the European Champions Cup in 1992 and 1993 . This was followed by a few posts in the men's and women's area, but without success. In 1998 he came to the Slovenian club Prule 67 Ljubljana , with which he won the championship and the cup in 2002. In the EHF Champions League he was able to eliminate THW Kiel in the quarter-finals in 2002/03 , but failed in the semifinals at the eventual winner Montpellier AHB . He then took over the Slovenian men's national handball team , with which he won the silver medal at the 2004 European Championships . This was followed by a double engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he coached RK Bosna Sarajevo and the national team. After a year and a half, he took over the Slovenian selection again, with which he finished tenth at the 2007 World Cup in Germany. There Kamenica caused a sensation when he accused the referees of postponing the defeat against the hosts. At the same time he coached the Slovenian top club RK Celje , with whom he became champion and cup winner in 2006. He was released from both teams in late 2007 in quick succession. From 2008 he was with RK Našice five times in a row Croatian runner-up behind the RK Zagreb. From December 2009 to April 2010 he was briefly national coach for Montenegro . From 2013 he coached the Montenegrin club RK Lovćen Cetinje . After Kamenica then coached the Bosnian club MRK Goražde , the Turkish club Zağnos Spor Kulübü and the Macedonian club RK Pelister Bitola, he took over as coach of RK Zagreb again in May 2017. He worked at RK Zagreb until November 2017.
