Kassian Lauterer
Kassian Lauterer OCist (born January 29, 1934 in Bregenz as Otto Lauterer , Vorarlberg ) is a Cistercian and old abbot of the Wettingen-Mehrerau Territorial Abbey .
Life
Kassian Kaiserslautern became effective on August 19, 1951 during his schooldays at the gymnasium of the Abbey Mehrerau into the novitiate of the Cistercian order one. Born Otto Lauterer, he took the religious name Kassian in honor of Kassian Haid . He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the theological college of the abbey, since 1955 in Friborg , Switzerland. On August 6, 1957, he received the sacrament of ordination by diocesan bishop Bruno Wechner and became a teacher of philosophy and religion and prefect in the boarding school. In 1960 he was in Friborg to the doctor of theology doctorate .
On August 19, 1968 he was elected Abbot of Wettingen and Prior of Mehrerau (the official title). The abbot of Mehrerau is also the head of the Mehrerau congregation . After the papal confirmation on August 31, the consecration of the abbot by Cardinal Archbishop Benno Gut took place on October 26, 1968. His motto is: Bona voluntate servire ("Serve in good will", "Willingly serve"). Since 1975 he has headed the religious conference of the diocese of Feldkirch . As abbot of a private abbey , Lauterer was also a member of the Austrian Bishops' Conference . From 1978 to 2009 Kassian Lauterer was Prior of the Bregenz Commandery of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . On January 29, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
Lauterer taught religion at the Collegium Bernardi until his retirement . In the course of the uncovering of several abuse scandals in Germany and Austria, Lauterer was accused of not only using a well-known pedophile priest in the boarding school, but also, after the renewed discovery of sexual assault, asked the victims to remain silent, arranged for the perpetrator to be transferred and failed to report . Lauterer denied the allegations.
