Katrin Laur (born Katrin Poola , born April 29, 1955 in Tartu ) is an Estonian film director , writer and professor of screenplay and dramaturgy at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts .

Life

Katrin Laur graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1973 and studied directing at the Moscow Film School WGIK in the master class of Sergei Gerasimow from 1977 to 1982 . In the year of her graduation, she emigrated to Germany with her then husband, a Colombian film colleague, and her daughter.

Laur lived u. a. in Berlin , Zurich and Munich , where she worked briefly at Radio Free Europe and studied German at the Ludwig Maximilians University . Since 2004 Laur has been working in Estonia again, where she was a lecturer at Tallinn University from 2008-2011 . Since 2011 she has been professor for screenplay and dramaturgy at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.

Katrin Laur writes screenplays for both feature films and documentaries. Her thesis at Moscow University ( three hours before the train left ) dealt with the Russification in Estonia, according to her own statement, but was disguised as a marriage or divorce drama. Probably the film would not have passed the censorship in Tallinn, but Gerasimov was such a big name in Moscow at the time that he could do practically anything, "just counterrevolution and pornography" not.

She made her debut as a poet in 1987 in the magazine Tulimuld , later publications in the magazines Looming and Estonia followed . 1993 appeared to her so far the only volume of poetry by Doris Kareva was very highly reviewed, with the poet connections to Karl Ristikivi and Paul-Eerik Rummo noted.
