Mikko Keskinarkaus (born June 29, 1979 in Rovaniemi ) is a former Finnish Nordic combined skier . He started when he was active for the Lahden Hiihtoseura club and took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics for Finland .

Career

On December 20, 1997, Mikko Keskinarkaus started at the B World Cup in Vuokatti, Germany, and finished second behind Russian Dmitri Sinizyn and ahead of Norwegian Kenneth Braaten . For Finland he took part in the 1998 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in St. Moritz . In the relay competition he formed the relay together with Jaakko Tallus , Samppa Lajunen and Hannu Manninen and the Finnish relay was able to secure the junior world championship title before Slovenia and Switzerland. He was allowed in the 1997/98 season in the Nordic Combined World Cup and ended the season in 41st place overall with a total of 210 World Cup points.

On December 15, 2000 Mikko Keskinarkaus was again able to stand on the podium in the B World Cup. In the sprint competition in Calgary , he finished third behind Denis Tishagin from Russia and Jan Rune Grave from Norway. In addition, on January 16, 2001, he finished second behind his compatriot Antti Kuisma at the B World Cup in Val di Fiemme . At the World Cup in Oslo on March 9, 2001 he was able to occupy a place in the top 15 with 15th place and the next day he placed ninth in the top 10 in the sprint. At the end of the 2000/01 season he finished 31st with 296 points.

At the World Cup in Val di Fiemme on January 9, 2002, Mikko Keskinarkaus formed the Finnish relay team with Samppa Lajunen and Jaakko Tallus . They won the competition before the relays from Austria and Germany. With that he was able to win his first and only World Cup. At the World Cups in Reit im Winkl and Ramsau , he was able to achieve his best individual results in the World Cup in the sprint and mass start. Due to his good performance, he qualified for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and was nominated by the Suomen Olympic Committee for the Winter Games. He was allowed to participate in both individual competitions there. After he had finished 28th and 23rd place in these individual competitions, he was not nominated for the gold relay of the Finns, which consisted of Samppa Lajunen, Jari Mantila , Jaakko Tallus and Hannu Manninen . In the overall ranking of the 2001/02 season , he finished 15th with 669 points. In the sprint competition, he took 14th place. In both evaluations, these results were the best in his career.

After Mikko Keskinarkaus just missed a podium finish on January 22, 2003 at the B World Cup in Klingenthal with fourth place, he won the sprint competition one day later in the same place ahead of Sverre Rotevatn from Norway and Mathieu Martinez from France. After the season, the then 23-year-old ended his active career.
