Kevin Wehrs (born April 7, 1988 in Plymouth , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player with Hungarian citizenship who has been under contract with EC Bad Tölz in the DEL2 since September 2018 .

Career

Kevin Wehrs played with the number 2 for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the top US junior league United States Hockey League (USHL), won the championship with the team in 2005 and was elected to the USHL First All-Star Team. From 2007 to 2011 he played for the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) alongside later NHL players such as Blake Wheeler and Nick Bjugstad . There the attacking defender succeeded in the 2009/10 season in his 79th game his first NCAA goal against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.

Wehrs has been playing in Europe since 2011 and played his first season with the Norwegian first division club Lillehammer IK , with whom he was able to reach the semi-finals of the GET leagues . From 2012 to 2014 he worked for the Romanian club ASC Corona 2010 Brașov in the Romanian and international MOL league . With Brașov he was Romanian runner- up in 2013 and Romanian champion in 2014 , and the team was also able to reach the MOL final in 2014 .

From 2014 to 2016 he spent two seasons with the Hungarian club Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the international Erste Bank Ice Hockey League (EBEL). The team was unsuccessful, but Wehrs scored 49 points and a positive plus / minus balance in both seasons . After receiving his Hungarian citizenship, he was also used in the Hungarian national team at the 2016 World Cup .

In June 2016, the EBEL rival EC VSV from Austria announced that they had occupied their last place in defense with Kevin Wehrs. After the season, Wehrs received no new contract offer from Villach, but was signed by HC Innsbruck to replace the injured Lubomír Štach .

For the 2018/19 season he moved to the DEL2 at EC Bad Tölz .
