The license plates in Botswana are similar in appearance to the previous British license plates (until 2000). The front license plate has a white background, the rear one yellow, the writing is always black. The signs start with a B for the country name, followed by three digits and three letters without meaning.
Diplomatic license plates initially show a maximum of two digits, which encode the corresponding country of origin, followed by the letters CD , CC or CT . It is followed by a consecutive serial number.
Official vehicles and vehicles of the armed forces have red letters on a white background. The signs begin with BX or BDF (Botswana Defense Forces) .
