The license plate of the Ivory Coast stand in international comparison produced mainly by their color design. The background of the signs is blue and the text is white. On the right edge there is an orange field, the nationality symbol CI for French. Côte d'Ivoire and the outline of the country in a circle. The label on the license plate initially consists of four digits, followed by two letters. Finally, a two-digit number appears that specifies the origin of the vehicle in more detail. The manufacturer of the vehicle and the chassis number are also engraved on Ivorian license plates. The first three letters are used to designate the vehicle brand (e.g. PEU for Peugeot ).
In the case of diplomatic license plates, the majority of the license plate has an orange background. The field on the right-hand side, on the other hand, is white and the entire text is black. The license plates begin with a maximum of three-digit combination that encodes the country of origin. This is followed by either the letters CC , CD , CMD or MD and a consecutive number.

Until 1991 the license plates had silver-colored writing on a blue background. The signs ended with the letters CI and the province number.
