The license plate of Mauritania have a blue label on a white background. The signs start with four digits, followed by two letters and a two-digit number that provides information about the region in which the vehicle is registered (e.g. 00 for Nouakchott ). On the right edge, Mauritanian license plates based on the Euro license plates show a blue bar. This shows the country outline surrounded by a circle, as well as the nationality symbol in Arabic (ج ا م For الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية) and Latin letters ( RIM for French République islamique de Mauritanie - both means Islamic Republic of Mauritania ). With older signs, the bar is missing and only the letters appear.
