The number and name of the state are present in both Latin and Arabic script . The English state name "Somaliland" is in the short form "S.LAND" on the license plate.

Somaliland introduced its own labeling system in 1996. The code and the name of the state were written in both Latin and Arabic script, the state name "Somaliland" was not abbreviated. This form was replaced by the current format in 2005.
